Constable Javed Khan Balegar of 143 Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force, made the supreme sacrifice on 3 October 2007 while serving in Manipur.
Troops of 143 Battalion were proceeding from their battalion headquarters towards their company location when insurgents ambushed them near Keithemnambi village in Senapati district.
The attackers had selected a tactically advantageous position, giving them dominating ground and multiple escape routes.
The CRPF personnel responded by launching a counter-attack despite the disadvantageous position. Their action forced the insurgents to flee from their well-entrenched positions.
Constable Javed Khan Balegar fought from the front during the counter-attack and made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
He is remembered among the six CRPF personnel of 143 Battalion who made the supreme sacrifice in the Keithemnambi ambush.
