In 2000, the 129th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force was deployed in Assam to help maintain peace and contain the activities of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA). The operational environment required CRPF personnel to support security efforts and respond when other forces came under attack.
On 19 October 2000, Constable Ram Prakash was moving with his party as reinforcement for Assam Police commandos who had come under attack by insurgents at Sanhaibari, Assam. The CRPF personnel encountered the attackers while carrying out this duty, and an armed confrontation followed.
The CRPF party responded with effective fire and repulsed the attack. During the exchange, Ram Prakash and his fellow personnel sustained bullet injuries. Despite the danger and the intensity of the encounter, the party fought back against the attackers.
Ram Prakash later succumbed to his injuries. The official CRPF memorial records that the three constables involved in this encounter died with their weapons firmly in their hands. His sacrifice on 19 October 2000 stands as a tribute to his courage and service in Assam.
