Constable Rayan Bungera, 30 BN CRPF

In 1987, the 30th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force was deployed in Kapurthala district, Punjab, to support the local police as the state faced a period of serious terrorist violence. CRPF personnel were engaged in operations aimed at countering the threat and assisting in the maintenance of security.

On 31 October 1987, a party of the 30th Battalion came under an ambush during an anti-terrorist operation. The troops responded courageously to the attack, returning fire and forcing the attackers to retreat. The encounter involved a fierce exchange in which the CRPF personnel faced grave danger.

Constable Rayan Bungera and Constable B. D. Bante attained martyrdom during the encounter. Bungera made the supreme sacrifice on 31 October 1987 while serving with the 30th Battalion in Punjab.

The Honour Post pays tribute to Constable Rayan Bungera and honours his service to the nation. His sacrifice, alongside that of Constable B. D. Bante, remains remembered with respect by the CRPF family.
