Constable Satbir Singh of 22 Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force, made the supreme sacrifice while serving in Assam.
22 Battalion CRPF was deployed in Assam in connection with the law and order situation prevailing in the state at the time.
On 3 October 1999, a CRPF patrol came under a bomb blast attack by insurgents in Guwahati.
Several personnel were grievously injured in the attack. Despite their injuries, the CRPF personnel returned fire at the attackers.
The insurgents had planned to loot the weapons of the CRPF personnel. The determined response of the troopers forced the attackers to abandon their plan and flee.
Constable Satbir Singh, who was fighting from the front, sustained severe injuries during the gunfight and attained martyrdom in the line of duty.
