Constable Tshering Narbu served in the 3rd Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force and was among the personnel who made the supreme sacrifice at Hot Springs, Ladakh, on 21 October 1959.
That day, a CRPF patrol operating in a remote and strategically sensitive frontier area was ambushed by Chinese Army personnel. The attackers used automatic weapons and mortars, placing the patrol at a severe disadvantage.
Despite the sudden assault and the hostile terrain, the Indian personnel stood their ground. Tshering Narbu was martyred during the confrontation, becoming one of the ten CRPF personnel remembered for their sacrifice at Hot Springs.
His memory lives on through Police Commemoration Day, observed annually to honour police personnel who have laid down their lives while protecting the nation and serving its people.
