Constable Vikramaditya Yadav of 159 BN CRPF made the supreme sacrifice on 18 October 2012 during a joint operation against Maoists in Bihar. Born on 12 February 1969, he was among the personnel of 159 BN operating in the Chakrabandha forest region, where security forces were carrying out a coordinated mission based on intelligence about Maoist activity.
The operation involved six strike teams drawn from 205 CoBRA, 47 BN CRPF, 159 BN CRPF and the state police. As one of the 159 BN teams advanced towards Tarchuan village, Maoists triggered a series of improvised explosive devices and opened intense fire. The blast struck a mine-protected vehicle and four motorcycles travelling with the team.
The official CRPF gallantry account identifies Vikramaditya Yadav as one of the personnel travelling on a motorcycle who sustained severe injuries. The troops faced a difficult situation as the initial blast was followed by gunfire. The published account does not specify a separate personal action by Yadav during the encounter.
Vikramaditya Yadav was posthumously awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry for his service and actions during the operation. His sacrifice is remembered alongside the other personnel of 159 BN who lost their lives in the same ambush. Their names remain linked to a mission in which CRPF personnel faced a coordinated attack while operating in difficult forest terrain.
