Head Constable Ajay Kumar Tiwari was serving with 116 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force when he made the supreme sacrifice on 2 October 1999 at Digboi, Assam.
116 Battalion of the CRPF was deployed in Assam to assist with the law and order situation prevailing in the state. On 2 October 1999, a patrol of the battalion, accompanied by personnel from the civil police, was returning from Pangree Police Station in the Digboi area.
As the patrol reached near Dibrujan village in the Digboi area, it came under a bomb attack by armed attackers. The CRPF personnel were grievously injured but continued to fight and return fire.
The attackers had reportedly intended to seize the weapons carried by the patrol. The determined resistance of the CRPF personnel forced them to abandon their plan and flee.
Head Constable Ajay Kumar Tiwari was fighting from the front during the fierce exchange of fire. He received severe injuries and made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
He made the supreme sacrifice alongside Constable C. Iliyarajan, Constable Jagdish Prasad and Constable K. P. More, who were also serving with 116 Battalion.
A Life Dedicated to Service
Born on 30 December 1963, Head Constable Ajay Kumar Tiwari dedicated his service to the Central Reserve Police Force.
His sacrifice at Digboi on 2 October 1999 remains part of the history of 116 Battalion and the CRPF's service in Assam.
