Head Constable M. Shiva Kumar of 143 Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force, made the supreme sacrifice on 3 October 2007 during a counter-insurgency operation in Manipur.
The battalion was deployed in Senapati district. On the day of the operation, troops were moving from their battalion headquarters towards their company location when insurgents ambushed them near Keithemnambi village under Sapermeina Police Station.
The insurgents had selected a tactically advantageous position with dominating ground and several escape routes.
Despite being placed at a disadvantage, the CRPF troops launched a counter-attack. Their determined response forced the insurgents to abandon their positions and flee.
Head Constable M. Shiva Kumar fought from the front during the counter-attack and made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
He is remembered among the six CRPF personnel of 143 Battalion who made the supreme sacrifice in the Keithemnambi ambush.
