Head Constable/Driver Lal Babu Sah of 159 BN CRPF made the supreme sacrifice on 18 October 2012 during a joint operation against Maoists in Bihar. Born on 6 April 1971, he was serving with a team deployed in the Chakrabandha forest region, where several CRPF and specialist units were operating together.
The operation followed intelligence about a Maoist gathering in the forest region across parts of Aurangabad and Gaya districts. Teams from 205 CoBRA, 47 BN CRPF, 159 BN CRPF and the state police were organised into six strike teams. As a team of 159 BN advanced towards Tarchuan village, Maoists triggered a series of improvised explosive devices and opened intense fire.
The blast struck a mine-protected vehicle and four motorcycles. The official account identifies Lal Babu Sah and Sub-Inspector Ramjee Ram as the two personnel who became trapped in the vehicle. Other members of the team travelling on motorcycles, including Head Constable Rai Singh and Constables Ashok Kumar Nirala and Vikramaditya Yadav, were also severely injured. The coordinated nature of the attack made the situation especially dangerous for the entire party.
Lal Babu Sah was among the six CRPF personnel who made the supreme sacrifice during the operation. He was posthumously awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry. His role as a driver was part of the operational movement that brought the team into the forest area; the official account does not assign him a separate individual action beyond the circumstances of the ambush, and this profile does not add one.
