Constable/Mahila Rekha Kushwah served with the 88 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force. She was born on 1 January 1969 and belonged to Madhya Pradesh.
On 5 October 1991, personnel of 88 Mahila Battalion CRPF were deployed in Srinagar city for checking and frisking duty in coordination with the Border Security Force.
The Incident
After completing their assigned duty, the personnel were returning in a bus. As the vehicle slowed down at a bend, terrorists opened heavy and indiscriminate fire on the bus. The protection party retaliated against the attackers.
During the attack, Constable/Mahila Rekha Kushwah sustained grievous injuries in the firing. She succumbed to her injuries and made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation on 5 October 1991.
Her martyrdom remains a part of the proud history of the CRPF's Mahila Battalion and stands as a testament to her courage and devotion to duty.
