Master Warrant Officer A K Singh of the Indian Air Force made the supreme sacrifice on 6 October 2017 in Arunachal Pradesh.
He was serving with 157 Helicopter Unit and was deployed as a flight gunner aboard an Mi-17 V5 helicopter undertaking an air maintenance mission.
The aircraft took off from the Khirmu helipad to carry supplies to forward Army posts in the Tawang sector. It was on its second routine air maintenance sortie of the day.
The helicopter crashed near the dropping zone at around 0659 hours and caught fire. Seven defence personnel were aboard the aircraft and all sustained fatal injuries.
Master Warrant Officer A K Singh made the supreme sacrifice along with the other members of the crew and the two Army personnel aboard the helicopter.
He had served in the Indian Air Force for more than three decades and had specialised as a flight gunner, undertaking operational flying duties before the fatal mission.
The Honour Post honours Master Warrant Officer A K Singh and pays tribute to his supreme sacrifice.
