Naik/Driver R. D. Chaudhary of the 53rd Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force, made the supreme sacrifice on 29 October 1990 while serving in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, during counter-insurgency operations.
On that day, he was driving a vehicle carrying CRPF personnel as part of an escort. As the vehicle turned a corner in Nai Basti, terrorists opened fire on the party. The escort personnel and the vehicle's second section responded, but the attackers managed to flee.
Naik/Driver Chaudhary and Constable Dharnidhar Nath sustained bullet injuries in the attack. Despite the efforts to respond to the sudden assault, Chaudhary succumbed to his injuries, making the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
His story recalls the dangers faced by CRPF personnel carrying out routine movements in areas affected by terrorism. Even duties such as driving an escort vehicle can place personnel directly in harm's way, requiring alertness and courage under fire.
The Honour Post pays tribute to Naik/Driver R. D. Chaudhary for his service and sacrifice. His memory stands among those of the personnel who gave their lives while serving the nation.
