On 14 October 1966, a road-opening party of the 1st Battalion CRPF was covering the Nunshang Bridge in Ukhrul, Manipur, to protect a convoy travelling from Imphal.
The party came under attack from hostile personnel firing automatic weapons. Naik/Radio Operator Jai Dayal was among the five CRPF personnel who made the supreme sacrifice during the operation.
