District Police Shopian paid solemn tribute to the police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, observing Police Commemoration Day at District Police Lines (DPL), Shopian, on October 21.
The observance brought together police personnel, officers from the Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and family members of the fallen heroes to honour the courage and dedication of those who gave their lives in the service of the nation.
SSP Shopian, Shri Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary-JKPS, joined senior officers of the Army and CRPF, officers and officials of District Police Shopian, and the martyrs’ family members in laying floral tributes at the Martyrs’ Monument.
A Solemn Salute to the Fallen
A ceremonial Police Commemoration Day parade was held, followed by the wreath-laying ceremony. Contingents of District Police Shopian, the 14th Battalion CRPF and the District Police Pipe Band participated in the observance, reflecting the solidarity and shared respect of the uniformed services for their fallen colleagues.
During the ceremony, SSP Shopian read out the names of police personnel who attained martyrdom while performing their duties. He paid homage to their supreme sacrifice and recalled their courage, dedication and selfless service, noting that their legacy would continue to inspire serving personnel.
Standing Beside the Martyrs’ Families
The observance also focused on the families who continue to live with the loss of their loved ones. During an interaction with the Next of Kin (NoKs) of police martyrs, SSP Shopian listened to their grievances, expressed solidarity with them and assured them that J&K Police would continue to stand by their side and extend all possible assistance whenever required.
As a gesture of remembrance and support, gifts were distributed among the martyrs’ families. The interaction reflected the importance of maintaining a lasting bond with the families of personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
Through the solemn observance, District Police Shopian paid tribute to its fallen personnel and honoured the families who carry forward their memory. The courage, dedication and sacrifice of these bravehearts remain an enduring part of the legacy of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
