Sepoy H. N. Deka was one of two Indian Army personnel aboard an Indian Air Force Mi-17 V5 helicopter on 6 October 2017.
The helicopter had taken off for a routine air maintenance sortie and was carrying supplies to a forward post of the Indian Army in the hilly terrain near Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh.
The aircraft crashed near the dropping zone and caught fire. The Ministry of Defence confirmed that all seven defence personnel aboard sustained fatal injuries, including Sepoy H. N. Deka.
Sepoy H. N. Deka made the supreme sacrifice on 6 October 2017 while supporting the Indian Army's forward deployment in the challenging terrain of Arunachal Pradesh.
