Shopian Police have continued to engage with local youth through sporting activities and community-oriented initiatives, recognising the importance of providing young people with opportunities to participate, develop their abilities and channel their energy into constructive pursuits. Through the Civic Action Programme (CAP), the district police have organised activities that bring young people and local communities together, with sports serving as an important platform for participation and interaction.
The conclusion of the CAP Knockout T10 Cricket Tournament at Batapora Stadium on October 12 reflected this continued effort. The tournament concluded with Zawoora 11 defeating Paradise Cricket Club Shopian in the final to lift the title, bringing together players, sports enthusiasts and spectators from Shopian and adjoining areas.
Under the leadership of SSP Shopian Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary, JKPS, the tournament highlighted the district police’s continued focus on youth engagement and community participation. Choudhary attended the closing ceremony and distributed cash prizes and trophies among the winners and runners-up. He appreciated the participating teams and assured continued support for similar inclusive sporting events.
The initiative formed part of the broader purpose of the Civic Action Programme, through which police-led activities provide opportunities for interaction beyond formal settings. By organising sporting competitions, Shopian Police have helped create a platform where young people can come together through their shared interest in cricket, demonstrate their abilities and experience the values of teamwork, discipline and healthy competition.
For many young players, local tournaments are an important opportunity to gain match experience and compete against teams from other areas. Such competitions encourage players to improve their performance, strengthen team coordination and remain actively involved in sports. They also bring local sporting talent into the public eye and help sustain interest in organised cricket.
The participation of teams and spectators from adjoining areas gave the Batapora tournament a wider community presence. The competition was not limited to the final result; it also provided a shared sporting occasion for players and residents, with the closing ceremony recognising the efforts of both finalists.
Zawoora 11 emerged as the champions, while Paradise Cricket Club Shopian finished as runners-up. The distribution of trophies and cash prizes marked the achievements of the competing teams and brought the tournament to a close. Their participation also reflected the enthusiasm surrounding local cricket and the value of providing players with regular opportunities to compete.
Shopian Police’s continued involvement in youth-oriented activities through the Civic Action Programme underscores the importance of maintaining platforms that encourage participation and positive engagement. Consistent support for sporting events can help strengthen local sporting activities, encourage emerging talent and ensure that young people have opportunities to pursue their interests.
The CAP Knockout T10 Cricket Tournament was another occasion bringing Shopian Police, local players and the community together through sport. With SSP Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary reiterating support for similar initiatives, the focus remains on sustaining opportunities that promote youth participation, sporting spirit and stronger connections within the community.
