Squadron Leader S Tiwari of the Indian Air Force made the supreme sacrifice on 6 October 2017 in Arunachal Pradesh.
He was serving as the co-pilot of an Mi-17 V5 helicopter assigned to an air maintenance mission supporting forward Army posts in the Tawang sector.
The aircraft took off from the Khirmu helipad and was carrying supplies towards a forward post near the Yangste area. It was undertaking its second routine air maintenance sortie of the day.
The helicopter crashed near the dropping zone at around 0659 hours and caught fire. All seven defence personnel aboard sustained fatal injuries.
Squadron Leader S Tiwari made the supreme sacrifice along with Wing Commander Vikram Upadhyay, the other IAF crew members and the two Army personnel aboard the helicopter.
His service as a helicopter pilot reflected the responsibilities undertaken by IAF aircrew operating in remote and high-altitude areas.
The Honour Post honours Squadron Leader S Tiwari and pays tribute to his supreme sacrifice.
