During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sub Inspector Prasad became infected with the coronavirus. Despite the nature of the illness and the unprecedented circumstances confronting personnel across the country, he continued to be counted among the BSF personnel who lost their lives during the pandemic.
He succumbed to the infection on 1 October 2020.
The Indian Police Foundation's COVID-19 Online Remembrance records his service number as 906000078 and identifies him as SI (Radio Mechanic). The record also notes that he was survived by his wife, one son and two daughters.
Sub Inspector Ganga Sagar Prasad's name is also included in the Bharat Ke Veer memorial records for personnel of the Border Security Force who made the supreme sacrifice.
His service of around 30 years with the BSF forms an important part of his record, from his initial appointment as a Naik (Radio Operator) in 1990 to his service as a Sub Inspector (Radio Mechanic).
The Honour Post honours his three decades of service and remembers his sacrifice during one of the most challenging periods faced by security personnel across the country.
