Sub Inspector Paritosh Mondal of the Border Security Force made the supreme sacrifice while performing operational duty along the International Boundary in Jammu in September 2019. His mortal remains were recovered on 1 October 2019.

Paritosh Mondal, aged 54, belonged to Nadia district of West Bengal and was serving with 36 Battalion BSF.

On 28 September 2019, Sub Inspector Mondal proceeded with two Constables for advance naka duty at Aik Nullah near Border Out Post Jai Kishan.

While crossing the nullah, the personnel encountered a sudden flash flood and a powerful water current. According to the official Bharat Ke Veer account, Sub Inspector Mondal acted to save the two Constables accompanying him and steered the boat towards safety.

In the process, he was swept away by the strong current. The nullah flows towards Pakistan, and his body was subsequently carried across the International Boundary.

For nearly three days, the BSF, State Disaster Response Force and other personnel conducted search operations to locate him. Pakistani Rangers and people on the Indian side also assisted in the recovery effort.

On 1 October 2019, Sub Inspector Mondal's mortal remains were recovered from the Pakistan side and handed over to the BSF at the Octroi Border Out Post.

The official Bharat Ke Veer record states that Sub Inspector Paritosh Mondal sacrificed his life while saving the two Constables accompanying him.

He is survived by his wife Jayanti Mondal, daughter Priya Mondal and son Pritom Mondal.

His sacrifice remains a part of the BSF's record of personnel who lost their lives while carrying out operational duties along India's border.
