SUB-INSPECTOR
Sub-Inspector Ramjee Ram of 159 BN CRPF made the supreme sacrifice on 18 October 2012 during a joint operation against Maoists in Bihar. Born on 1 January 1963, he served in a unit assigned to an operation in the Chakrabandha forest region, where security forces were working to locate and confront Maoist groups.
The operation was launched after intelligence indicated a Maoist gathering in the forest region spanning parts of Aurangabad and Gaya districts. Joint teams from 205 CoBRA, 47 BN CRPF, 159 BN CRPF and the state police were divided into six strike teams. As one of the teams from 159 BN advanced towards Tarchuan village, Maoists detonated a series of improvised explosive devices and followed the blasts with intense gunfire.
The blast affected a mine-protected vehicle and four motorcycles. Sub-Inspector Ramjee Ram and Head Constable/Driver Lal Babu Sah became trapped in the vehicle. The attack was part of a coordinated ambush against the advancing team, and the personnel faced the immediate danger of further explosions and sustained fire. Ramjee Ram was posthumously awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry for his actions during the operation. His service is remembered alongside the personnel who stood with him in the ambush.
