Subedar Sukhdev Singh was a soldier of 16 Grenadiers of The Grenadiers Regiment. He hailed from Peoni village in Majalta tehsil of Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir, and had also served during the Kargil War in 1999.
By 2020, he had risen to the rank of Subedar and was serving with his unit in the operational area along the Line of Control. He was known as a brave and dedicated soldier who remained committed to his duties.
On 5 October 2020, Pakistani troops opened fire on Indian positions in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri. Subedar Sukhdev Singh was critically injured during the firing. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
Subedar Sukhdev Singh was a recipient of the Sena Medal. His service and sacrifice remain a part of the proud record of The Grenadiers and the Indian Army.
