Constable Girish Chandra Pant of the 42nd Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force, made the supreme sacrifice on 5 November 1991 while serving in Jammu and Kashmir.
The 42nd Battalion was deployed in Jammu and Kashmir for anti-terrorist operations. On that day, CRPF personnel were travelling in a convoy from Jammu towards Srinagar when terrorists ambushed them.
The troops immediately retaliated and advanced towards the attackers. During the encounter, Constable Pant sustained severe injuries. Despite being wounded, he continued the assault and refused to relent. The determined response of the CRPF personnel forced the terrorists to flee, taking advantage of the area's narrow lanes and by-lanes.
Constable Pant later succumbed to his injuries. His determination to continue fighting despite being severely wounded remains a testament to his courage and devotion to duty.
The Honour Post pays tribute to Constable Girish Chandra Pant, remembering his bravery and supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
