On 2 November 2007, a contingent of the 50th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force was travelling towards its company location in North Cachar Hills, Assam. The personnel were moving in three vehicles when insurgents ambushed them near Landring village, under Umrangso Police Station.
One of the vehicles became trapped in the area of attack as the insurgents opened intense fire from well-entrenched positions. The CRPF personnel responded with determination, dismounted and launched a counter-attack against the attackers.
Constable Sahadey Chandra Roy was among the six personnel of the 50th Battalion who made the supreme sacrifice during the encounter. The troops continued to fight despite the difficult circumstances, ultimately forcing the insurgents to retreat.
Constable Sahadey Chandra Roy attained martyrdom on 2 November 2007. His sacrifice in Assam is remembered alongside that of his fellow personnel who stood their ground during the ambush.
The Honour Post pays tribute to Constable Sahadey Chandra Roy and honours his service and supreme sacrifice.
