On 2 November 1992, the 64th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force was assigned duties connected with securing the National Highway in Tripura and protecting the movement of essential supplies. During a road-opening patrol, the contingent was ambushed by insurgents who had taken positions on a nearby hill.
The attackers opened fire on the patrol, placing the CRPF personnel in a difficult position. The troops responded immediately, taking cover and returning fire despite the attackers' tactical advantage.
Constable Sukhdev Singh fought from the front alongside his fellow personnel. He sustained severe injuries during the exchange but continued to engage the attackers and support the counter-action. The troops eventually forced the insurgents to retreat.
Constable Sukhdev Singh later succumbed to his injuries. His sacrifice on 2 November 1992 is remembered as an example of the courage and determination displayed by CRPF personnel while carrying out their responsibilities in challenging conditions.
The Honour Post pays tribute to Constable Sukhdev Singh and honours his service to the nation.
