Constable Zahid Khan, 133 BN CRPF
On 1 November 1997, the 133rd Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force was engaged in anti-insurgency operations in Senapati district, Manipur. During an operation, the troops were ambushed by insurgents who had entrenched themselves behind fortified positions.
Despite the difficult terrain and the surprise attack, the CRPF personnel launched a fierce counterattack. They advanced against the insurgents, and a gunfight followed. Several members of the party sustained injuries, but the troops continued their advance and eventually compelled the attackers to retreat with their wounded.
Ten personnel of the battalion succumbed to their injuries after the encounter. Constable Zahid Khan was among those who made the supreme sacrifice on 1 November 1997.
The Honour Post remembers Constable Zahid Khan with respect and gratitude. His service and sacrifice in Manipur remain honoured.
