On 2 November 2007, a contingent of the 50th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force was moving towards its company location under Umrangso Police Station in North Cachar Hills, Assam. The personnel were travelling in three vehicles when insurgents launched an ambush near Landring village.
During the attack, one of the vehicles became trapped in the area of fire. The CRPF personnel dismounted and fought back, launching a counter-attack against insurgents who had taken up well-entrenched positions. The encounter developed into a fierce exchange of fire.
Head Constable/Fitter P. N. Tiwari was among the six personnel of the 50th Battalion who attained martyrdom during the operation. The memorial records his supreme sacrifice alongside that of his fellow personnel in the encounter.
His sacrifice on 2 November 2007 reflects the dangers faced by CRPF personnel while carrying out operational duties in difficult terrain. Head Constable/Fitter P. N. Tiwari's service and commitment to duty will remain a part of the Force's remembrance.
The Honour Post pays tribute to Head Constable/Fitter P. N. Tiwari and honours his supreme sacrifice.
