Lance Naik Bimal Dev Barma, 133 BN CRPF
The 133rd Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force was deployed in Senapati district, Manipur, for anti-insurgency operations. On 1 November 1997, during an operation in the district, the troops were ambushed by insurgents entrenched behind fortified positions.
Despite the difficult terrain and the intensity of the attack, the CRPF personnel launched a determined counterattack. They advanced against the insurgents, and a fierce exchange of fire followed. Several personnel sustained injuries, but the troops continued their advance and eventually forced the attackers to retreat with their wounded.
Ten personnel of the battalion later succumbed to their injuries. Lance Naik Bimal Dev Barma was among those who made the supreme sacrifice on 1 November 1997.
