Major Kunwar Aditya Singh Nathawat made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in Jammu and Kashmir on 5 November 2011, while serving with the Indian Army. He was associated with Operation Prakram, during which he confronted terrorists who had attacked Army personnel.
Born on 9 June 1975, Major Nathawat hailed from Chomu in Jaipur district of Rajasthan. He belonged to the Nathawat family of Chomu Thikana. His father, Colonel Thakur Jitendra Singh Nathawat, was also an Army officer. He was raised in a family with a longstanding association with military service, but Major Nathawat chose to establish his own identity through his commitment to the uniform and his service to the nation.
His family background notwithstanding, his life was defined by the responsibilities he accepted as an Army officer. He chose a career in the Indian Army, accepting the demands and risks that came with military service. His service took him to Jammu and Kashmir, where Army personnel continued to operate in difficult and often dangerous circumstances.
On 5 November 2011, during Operation Prakram in Jammu and Kashmir, Major Nathawat was confronting terrorists who had attacked Army personnel. In the course of the operation, he made the supreme sacrifice. His martyrdom brought an end to the life of an officer who had chosen service over personal comfort and remained committed to his duty.
Major Nathawat was married to Kunwarani Rukshmani Kumari. The couple had a son, Bhanwar Prithviraj Singh Nathawat. His sacrifice left behind a young family, for whom his absence became a lifelong loss. His family continues to carry his memory, while his service remains part of the history of the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in Jammu and Kashmir.
His story is a reminder that the uniform places the same demands of courage, responsibility and commitment on every soldier, regardless of background. The circumstances of his final operation may be recorded in greater detail through regimental archives, but the date of his sacrifice stands as a solemn part of his service.
On 5 November, The Honour Post remembers Major Kunwar Aditya Singh Nathawat, who made the supreme sacrifice in Jammu and Kashmir in 2011. We honour his service, courage and commitment to the nation.
