On 2 November 1992, personnel of the 64th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force were deployed to help secure the National Highway in Tripura and maintain the movement of essential supplies. During a road-opening patrol, the troops came under sudden attack from insurgents lying in ambush.
The attackers opened indiscriminate fire from a tactically advantageous position on a nearby hill. The CRPF personnel immediately responded, took positions and engaged the attackers despite being exposed to heavy fire.
Naik S. Sivadasan was among those fighting from the front. He sustained severe injuries during the counter-attack but continued to engage the insurgents and support his colleagues. His courage under fire became part of the determined effort that forced the attackers to flee.
Naik S. Sivadasan later succumbed to his injuries. His supreme sacrifice on 2 November 1992 stands as a solemn reminder of the courage and commitment with which CRPF personnel carry out their duties, even in the face of grave danger.
The Honour Post pays tribute to Naik S. Sivadasan and honours his service and sacrifice.
