Rifleman Tariq Ahmad Lone of 160 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) (Home and Hearth), Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, made the supreme sacrifice on 2 November 2015 in the Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
He hailed from Baktoor village in the Gurez area of Bandipora district. Serving with a Home and Hearth battalion, he was deployed in a sensitive forward area along the Line of Control.
The Incident in Gurez
On 2 November 2015, Pakistani troops opened fire on an Indian forward post in the Gurez sector. The incident reportedly took place near Tarbal in the Baktoor area, where the Indian position came under heavy firing and rocket attacks.
Rifleman Tariq Ahmad Lone and Rifleman Waseem Akram Lone were present at the forward post when it came under attack. Both soldiers made the supreme sacrifice during the exchange of fire.
The incident was reported as a serious ceasefire violation along the Line of Control. The firing continued for an extended period, highlighting the dangers faced by personnel deployed at forward posts in the region.
