Sepoy C. Radhakrishnan, posted at the Defence Public Relations Office in Srinagar, made the supreme sacrifice on 3 November 1999 during a Fidayeen attack at Badami Bagh Cantonment.
The attack took place in the evening when terrorists stormed the office premises and opened indiscriminate fire. Major Pramod Purushottam, who was serving as the Defence Public Relations Officer, was inside his office with five soldiers. Three journalists were also present.
As the firing began, Major Purushottam directed the journalists to take cover. He and the soldiers then confronted the attackers, engaging them in a close-quarter fight inside the office complex.
Sepoy C. Radhakrishnan made the supreme sacrifice during the encounter. He was among the five soldiers who stood alongside Major Purushottam and resisted the attackers.
The courage displayed by the personnel helped save the lives of the journalists who had taken shelter inside the office. Their actions have continued to be remembered at Badami Bagh Cantonment through Army tribute ceremonies.
Sepoy C. Radhakrishnan's name remains among the six personnel remembered for their supreme sacrifice during the attack.
On his martyrdom anniversary, The Honour Post pays tribute to Sepoy C. Radhakrishnan, posted at the Defence Public Relations Office, Srinagar.
