On 2 November 2007, personnel of the 50th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force were proceeding towards their company location under Umrangso Police Station in North Cachar Hills, Assam. The contingent was travelling in three vehicles when insurgents ambushed them near the village of Landring.
One of the vehicles became trapped in the killing zone as the attackers opened fire. The CRPF personnel responded with determination, dismounted and launched a counter-attack against the insurgents, who were positioned in well-entrenched and advantageous locations.
Sub-Inspector Navin Chand was among the six personnel of the 50th Battalion who made the supreme sacrifice during the encounter. The troops continued to resist the attack despite the intense exchange of fire, demonstrating resolve in an extremely difficult situation.
Sub-Inspector Navin Chand's sacrifice on 2 November 2007 is remembered as part of the courage displayed by the CRPF personnel who stood their ground during the ambush in Assam. His service and dedication remain worthy of honour.
The Honour Post pays tribute to Sub-Inspector Navin Chand and honours his supreme sacrifice.
